GWTS will be held at Steam Museum, Fire Fly Ave, Swindon SN2 2TA and open to the public from 10 am until 7 pm on Saturday 26th July and Sunday 27th July 2024.

This plan has been adapted from the plan for the successful 2023 and 2024 events, which was written in consultation with Swindon Borough Council, Steam Museum and with consideration and reference to the government legislation and guidance listed below.

The Event Safety Guide (Second Edition) – HSE

National Infection Prevention And Control Manual For England – NHS England

Byelaws for Acupuncture, Tattooing, Semi-Permanent Skin Colouring, Cosmetic Piercing And Electrolysis, 27 August 2015 – Swindon Borough Council

Tattooing Of Minors Act 1969

Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982, Chapter 30, Part VIII

The DSI is a licensed tattoo artist and studio owner that has completed hundreds of tattoos safely. The event team has also visited and consulted with numerous tattoo conventions around the UK, some established for over a decade, to obtain best practice and interpretation of the above guidance.

Whilst the guides do not specifically cover this type of event, there are a number of factors that can be considered for GWTS.

88 tattoo artists will be attending Swindon for a tattoo convention on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th July 2025.

Tattoo and art fans can browse the artists, many of them competing to be the best in category and best in show. Ticket holders will be able to watch live tattooing, talk to artists and even get tattooed themselves, providing the requirements of age, health and drug/ alcohol use are met.

In addition to the artists will be dozens of stands showing off their ‘alternative wares’, services and tattoo related goods from jewellery and clothing to art and homewares, food and drink.

According to the HSE Event Safety Guide, GWTS would be defined as a ‘small event’ although considerations and provisions have been adopted from the entire guide.

The event is being held in a building occupied by Swindon Borough Council and licenced and refurbished for hosting events.

Event attendance, the venue and its location present a low risk of incident and injury.

Tattooing and piercing does add a slightly higher risk if infection control isn’t managed properly. This document and the risk assessment details procedures and policies in place to mitigate these and other risks.
